5 out of 5 stars Quiet gaming mousepad with a comfortable mouse rest.   February 19, 2010

I received this after 3 days with free shipping to Virginia. This mouse pad was to replace my old school Steel Series 3s aluminum pad. The aluminum pads seem to have increased drag if the surrounding environment is cold or if the user fails to maintain it (clean it). It is also noisy and sometimes a weird grinding noise would come from them. Sometimes this occurs right after a clean too! I decided to try out these plastic mouse pads and I must say I am very impressed with my Razer Vespula. It is quiet and the wrist pad is thin enough to be unobtrusive during gaming in my opinion. I have a smaller desk and this mouse pad utilizes every available centimeter left. It stays firmly on my desk and it's made of weird smooth coat of paint over wood that doesn't offer much traction. The Vespula has a speed and control side. The difference is noticeable enough where it would make a difference which side you choose to use. I prefer the control side as I feel like it's slicker as opposed to smoother. Or maybe I'm using the speed side, I don't know :P. The price is a bit high BUT if you are willing to drop premium for a premium mouse pad, you will not be disappointed in the Razer Vespula.

Pros:
-No more grease/oil from skin rubbing off onto the mouse pad which seems to be a problem with metal pads.
-Choice between 2 different surfaces.
-Stays in place with or without the rubber mat.
-No noise at all under normal use. Even during fast movement, the sound is negligible.

Cons:
-Made of plastic which can break easily but I don't plan on moving my mouse pad around too often as my LAN party days are over :P.

5 out of 5 stars Like this more than the Razer ExactMat   May 7, 2010

I bought the Vespula for work since I use Photoshop a lot and require my mouse to be very precise (when I'm not using my Wacom tablet). I really like it. I also own the ExactMat for gaming at home. If I had to go back and choose between the two, I'd get the Vespula over the ExactMat. It's a little more compact but still gets the job done.

5 out of 5 stars Very good pad,,, get it!   March 28, 2010

I have tried a few pads to get the right one, from the silver woven to the flex shiny thin plastic and matt cloth and even ones with interweave line patterns.

I'm not sure of this info, but it seems once the mouse DPI is high enough it starts registering the flaws of the pad. One thing I'm sure of is this pad is worth it.

The double sided plastic has rubber edges to keep it firm in place, and if you add the silicone mat with the wrist rest (which comfortable) it will move your table before the pad moves.

The dual sides have a slight change to the surface texture but make a huge difference to the feel of the mouse. One gives a more controlled movement and the other is really really fast. Loved both sides of the pad, but I find myself using the speed side more often.

Oh,,, and cool Vespula stickers come with.

5 out of 5 stars Nice pad   April 21, 2010

Like this pad a lot. Perfect size. Doesn't move. Control surface is really nice. Great with my G500. Not many other options out there for mouse pads with a gel wrist. Speaking of the wrist pad, my only gripe about this product is there's a vespula logo in the middle of the gel wristpad and it's slowly coming off the first month and leaving bits of the logo on my wrist/hand.

5 out of 5 stars Best pad I've tried   May 5, 2010

I've been gaming for since I can remember and I've tried a number of pads. This is the best one I've found so far.
The mousepad consists of two parts- a soft pad with attached wrist-rest, and a rigid dual-sided pad made of composite plastics. The rigid pad sits on top of the soft pad and holds the rigid pad in place.

Soft pad: Not usable as a mousepad in and of itself, but it is optional-- if you don't want the wrist-rest, just set the rigid pad on your desktop without it. The soft pad helps keep the rigid pad in place, and it does so very well, but it will hold alright without it as long as you don't go too crazy. Personally, I prefer to use the wrist-rest-- unlike other mousepads I've used, the rest isn't too bulky and doesn't hinder my dexterity with the mouse.

Rigid pad "speed" side: The speed side is the smoother of the sides of the rigid pad, and it allows for quick gliding. This is good for games which require quick movements with less precision, and will probably be more familiar in feel to those who are used to use hard mouse pads already.

Rigid pad "control" side: The control side is rougher than the speed side, having a texture similar to that of very fine sandpaper, only less harsh. The mouse glides easily over this side as well, though does so slower. This allows for more precision movements. This side will be more familiar in feel to those who are used to using soft mousepads. This is the side I prefer to use for almost all applications, after having tried out both sides, but others I know who have this pad switch between the two sides, which is done by simply flipping the rigid pad over.

All in all a great product and worth the price. Unlike soft pads, this mousepad won't get permanently filthy-- you just wipe it clean. It is also much more sturdy and durable than "hard" mouse pads, and it will not deform or bend.
